If you missed our First Friday Zoom this last Friday you have only yourself to blame. It was an epic one! Not only were our features, Susana H.Case & Ken Holland on the top of their poetic game, all 26 of our open mic participants, including such luminaries as Carrie Magness Radna (reading from her new book "In The Blue Hour" through Nirala Publications) Julie Lomoe, Leslie Gerber, Lenny Dellarocca, Gary Siegel, Joann Deiudicibus, (who will be featuring with Patricia Carragon on April 2) Thomas Festa, Roberta Gould, Penny Brodie Toni Logan, Amanda Russell (one of livestream features in May) Bill Seaton, Sharon Ferrante, Steve Otlowski, Cassandra Clarke, Ron Bremner, Sandy Yannone, Kate Hymes, Addison Goodson, plus Jim and Greg made for a great CAPS night of poetry and possibly more importantly, in these divided times, a united community and camaraderie that makes CAPS the great gathering it has been for twenty-two years this March. Thanks to all! See you again on Thursday February 18 for Be The Feature Zoom 7pm.
Our first First Friday Zoom of 2021 features two great poets. Susana H. Case makes her first CAPS feature reading from her latest book "Dead Shark on the N Train" plus new work. Longtime friend and supporter Ken Holland, who received two Pushcart nominations in 2020, will be our second feature. As always a two poem, five minute open mic will follow the features. We have instituted a small Tip Jar donation for all events to continue all of CAPS future events and publications. Thank you for your continued support, words and generosity!
Our first open mic Zoom Event of 2021 and the first for Biden/Harris featured poetry from a host of friends and supporters. Special thanks to Greg Correll, Amanda Russell, Gary Siegel, Roberta Gould, Dan Brown, Sally Rhodes, Tanya Tyler, Todd Paropacic, Suzanne Rancourt, Penny Brodie, Tom Nolan, Marina Mati, and Julie Lomoe. In 2020, Ken Holland had not one but two poems nominated for a Pushcart Prize. The first poem, "Summer of the Gods," appeared in Naugatuck River Review, and in fact was awarded third place in their annual contest prior to the journal nominating the poem for the Pushcart. The second poem, "Falling Awake" was published in Shot Glass Journal. Since the small presses make their nomination decisions at the end of the year, Ken heard from both journals in December...holiday gifts like this are rare. This is his third nomination.
Thanks to D.b.Schell & Green Kill Gallery, CAPS kicks off another year with a new livestream event, Green Kill Sessions presents Calling All Poets. Scheduled for every second Thursday at 7pm, CAPS will feature three poets reading from new and selected works for 20-25 minutes each. You're mostly familiar with many of the names, but it'll be great to see these fine poets live again!
Our inaugural livestream, Thursday January 14th, features Teresa Costa, Marina Mati and Cheryl A Rice. February 11th will feature Bruce Weber, Leslie Gerber, & Seamus Casey. So far for March we have Pamela Twining & Andy Clausen... stay tuned to this space for more livestream features.

"In challenging times like these, poetry and the written word give expression to our col- lective experience, enrich our understanding with new insight and perspective, challenge us and inspire us. CAPS anthologies achieve this consistently by bringing together gifted artists from the Hudson Valley and across the world, and we thank you for the opportunity to explore perspectives on social justice, injustice, and liberation through this vibrant collection of work." — Senator Jen Metzger, NYS Senate, 42nd District
Edited and curated by artivist & former Dutchess County Poet Laureate Poet Gold and CAPS own webmaster Greg Correll, Mightier - Poets for Social Justice is the newest and most profound anthology of voices from CAPS Press. Featuring poets from around the Hudson Valley and the world, Mightier - Poets for Social Justice is exactly what we all hoped it would be: a starting point of a necessary and painful conversation.
"To inspire change, we must not shy away from difficult conversations and perhaps now more than ever, poetry provides an outlet to communicate with one other in a unique and beautiful way about important issues." — Marc Molinaro, Dutchess County Executive
"Poets, writers, painters, performers, muralists, and musicians—have the ability to distill the world they live in through their art. They are today's prophets, philosophers, and truth tellers that make sense of our lives and societies. This anthology captures the urgent voices of poets harmonizing with the voices of the oppressed, the forgotten, the newly awakened, and the ignored." — Linda Marston-Reid, Executive Director, Arts Mid-Hudson, NY

It with a profound sadness that Calling All Poets recognizes the sudden passing of our friend, advocate, and supoorter Dr. Pauline Uchmanowicz.
Pauline was a leading advocate for the teaching of writing in all its forms. She helped develop creative writing curricula in the department of English, and also served for many years as the coordinator of composition program, which oversees initial writing courses at New Paltz and therefore impacts the educational experiences of the vast majority of their students. Pauline was widely admired, engaged and a decorated member of the campus community and widely respected throughout the Hudson Valley writing and creative community. A gifted writer who featured for CAPS many times in the past, Pauline's scholarship, poetry, essays, and Reviews have appeared in Publications such as College English, International Journal of Comic Art, Ohio Review, Chronogram, Ploughshares, Radcliffe Quarterly, and Z magazine. Three of her pieces will be published in memoriam, in the upcoming CAPS@20 Anniversary Anthology.
Come and celebrate 20 years of Calling All Poets Series on Saturday, March 16 from 1-11pm when we'll hold our Membership Drive Marathon. Four features per hour with all day open mic! Pizza Hour as usual! Featured poets include: Bruce Weber, Teresa Costa, Mary Newell, William Seaton, Sharon Ferrante, Kate Hymes, Greg Correll, Susan Konz, Dutchess County Poet laureate Raphael Kosek, John Martucci, Guy Reed, Mary Panza, Gary Seigal, Steve Hirsch, Nina Robins, Michael Platsky, Ken Holland, Cheryl A. Rice and a host of other friends and supporters. For any students who come to the open mic we'll be offering free one-year entry memberships ($20).

As our February 1st, First Friday reading of 2019 comes upon us, I want to welcome you all to CAPS@20, our 20th year anniversary. Started many super moons ago by Jim Eve, Calling All Poets Series has evolved in many exciting and challenging directions at the whims of its curators, its members, patrons, and supporters.
There's our traditional First Friday readings at Roost Studios and Art Gallery, 69 Main Street, New Paltz. Please not our new starting time of 7:30PM. Every last Thursday of the month we return to Beacon, notably the Towne Crier Cafe, for our #poemsprosedialogue feature/wide open open mic. We have our 20th Anniversary Marathon on Saturday, March 16 from noon - 11:00PM. This will be a a membership drive event, so please renew if your time is up and help inspire others to join. We'd also like you to encourage any students you know to join with a one year free membership!
JazzOetry returns to Quinn's Restaurant in Beacon on Monday, April 29, 8:00PM. Featuring the JazzOetry Quartet of bassist Robert Kopec, Eric Person - reeds, Joe Tranchina - piano and keys, and X. Tiques - on drums. Scheduled poets include George Wallace, Mike Jurkovic, Poet Gold, Jim Eve, Penny Brodie and others. We're hoping to schedule two more JazzOetry events before the anniversary year is out.
Starting Wednesday April 17, 7:00PM CAPS, in association with Trattoria Marbella in Ellenville, will host Authors' Night with a reading, book signing, question and answer session and open mic.
So CAPS@20 is something we can all celebrate! Everyone tends to give the bulk of the credit for sustaining CAPS through the years to Jim, Glenn, Greg behind the website, and I, but all of you, members or non-members, veteran poet or novice, have created the nurturing community we all dwell within.
Give yourselves a round of applause. Write yourselves a poem, a sonnet, a haiku. CAPS@20 is all of us!
